In 2010 Shannon graduated summa cum laude from The University of Maine, Orono with two BAs in the fields of Anthropology, and Spanish Literature. She travelled extensively throughout Europe and Latin America, and lived a year abroad in Santiago, Dominican Republic to aid in rebuilding the English language program at La Pontificia Universidad de Madre y Maestra. While abroad, she conducted a unique case study on a popular Dominican pastime under the direction of faculty at the University of Maine which published in 2010 by The Journal of Anthropology.

In 2010 Shannon returned home to Maine, and moved to Falmouth where she has lived ever since. She enjoys spending time with her two children, reading, and traveling as much as possible.
